Tarot Cards.

The tarot is surrounded by mystery. So much so that even its true origins are unknown. It is thought that the earliest known tarot decks were actually meant for playing a game similar to modern-day bridge.” By the 18th century, the mystical applications for cards had spread from Italy in the 1400’s to other parts of Europe. Some think the cards may have originated from Egypt but what is sure is the mystery which surrounds them.

Tarot cards are one of many forms of seeking knowledge of the future. They are commonly used to evaluate any influences or measure potential outcomes surrounding a situation, a person or both. Each card and it’s position reads a different meaning. The word ‘divination’ is used as an over all word to describe the uncovering of hidden knowledge by the use of supernatural means. Is the future fluid? We all have freewill which can influence any reading. A reader will look at the whole picture and evaluate the possible outcomes relating to a specific issue. An outcome can not be guaranteed but a reader will provide choices which will enable the sitter to evaluate and go forward.

Many consider the deck of tarot to have their own power. They would be treated with respect often being wrapped in silk material. Others consider them to be a tool of the trade. A prompt to work alongside psychic abilities or mediumship. There is no official tarot deck. Decks come in many different forms, but the standard deck has 78 cards with 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana cards divided into 4 suits. There are 4 suits, Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles each with their own associations.

The cards have a correct way up but also have a reverse direction both are equally important and have meaning. Before the cards are passed to the quarrent to shuffle the reader will chose a card to represent them and place it right way up,

The word Arcana means trump card. The deck is made up around them. Some believe that the cards become an extension of the person. Psychics read the tarot to retell the future. A ‘sitter’ would normally have reason to attend a reading whether it be associated with a relationship, a career move or whatever.

The reader will hold the cards and concentrate before asking the sitter to shuffle and cut through the cards. The cards are then taken from the top of the deck and are placed down in a specific order and position. This order is associated with different aspects of the sitters life but will include the past the present and the near future. The 22 major Arcanas are symbolised by character which may suggest certain traits such as The lovers suggest love, the sun suggests happiness and the magician taking charge. It is important where these cards are places as these with others when places help with the interpretation.

It is questioned if the cards are chosen randomly or if by intuition. It is thought that intuition and guidance play their part in the choice of card and it’s placings.

It takes much practice and knowledge to read the tarot. Self knowledge and understanding come with study. The first step being to purchase your own set of cards and get used to the feel and meaning. Treat them with respect and they will work well with you as well as for you.
